Antelope Canyon X: The Quieter Slot Canyon Near Page
By The Wesley Team ·
Everyone has heard of Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon. Fewer people have heard of Canyon X. That is exactly why it is worth a look.
It is a slot canyon on Navajo land a few miles from the famous ones, with the same swirling sandstone and a fraction of the crowd. Here is what it is, how the tour works, and who should pick it.
What Canyon X is
Antelope Canyon X sits about 10 miles southeast of Page off AZ-98, on the Navajo Nation. It gets its name from the way two slot sections cross when you see them from above.
The only way in is a guided tour with Taadidiin Tours, a Navajo-owned outfit and the only operator on this land. You check in at their lot, ride a short van to the canyon, then walk down into the slot with your guide.
How it compares
Crowds: This is the big one. Groups are small and you see few other people. You can actually stop and look.
The walk: A short descent on sandy ground with some stairs, but no ladders. Easier than Lower Antelope, a bit more walking than Upper.
The look: A mix of both. Wide spots like Upper, tight twisting spots like Lower.
Light beams: Possible from late March to early October around midday, but not guaranteed.
Price: Usually lower than Upper Antelope. Check Taadidiin's site for the current rate and permit fee.

Tour options
Hiking tour. The standard tour. Plan about an hour and a half from van to van, with roughly a mile of walking.
Photo tour. Longer, smaller, and built for people with real cameras and tripods. Worth it if photography is the point of your trip.
Tour types and lengths change, so confirm when you book.
Good to know
Book ahead, especially spring through fall. Canyon X is less crowded, not empty.
No bags, strollers or pets in the canyon. Bring your phone or camera and water.
The hiking tour works for most ages. Expect sand, uneven ground and some steps.
Tours can close for flash flood risk. Your guide makes that call, not you.
Arizona does not do daylight saving time. The Navajo Nation does. Confirm which clock your tour time is on.
Who should pick Canyon X
Pick it if you hate crowds, you have already done Upper or Lower, or the famous tours are sold out.
Pick Upper instead if the summer light beams are the whole reason you came.
Plenty of people do both: Upper or Lower one morning, Canyon X the next. That is one more reason to give Page two nights.
