Rainbow Bridge from Page: How to Get There Right Now

By The Wesley Team ·

Rainbow Bridge is one of the largest natural bridges on Earth. It is also one of the hardest famous places in the Southwest to reach. There is no road to it. You get there by water, or on foot across the Navajo Nation.

Here is the honest picture right now, including the part most guides skip: the regular boat tour is not running.

What Rainbow Bridge is

A sandstone arch about 290 feet tall and 275 feet across, tucked in a side canyon on the south side of Lake Powell, roughly 50 miles by water from Wahweap Marina. It is a national monument and a sacred place to the Navajo and other tribes.

Out of respect, visitors are asked not to walk up to or under the bridge. You see it from the viewing area at the end of the trail.

Status right now: the boat tour is paused

Lake Powell Resorts runs the full-day Rainbow Bridge cruise from Wahweap Marina. As of October 2026 their site lists it as currently unavailable until further notice. The tour has stopped before when the lake dropped low, and it comes back when levels allow.

If Rainbow Bridge is the reason for your trip, check the tour page before you book anything else. Our Lake Powell water levels guide explains what is open.

Other ways to get there

Your own boat. Rent a powerboat at Wahweap or Antelope Point and drive yourself. It is about 50 miles each way, so it is a full, long day. At current lake levels the courtesy dock does not reach land. You beach the boat and walk, sometimes through mud, then follow the trail about a mile or more each way. There is no shade and no restroom on the trail. Glen Canyon's park entry fee applies.

Hiking. Two overland routes cross the Navajo Nation, each roughly 13 to 14 miles one way. Most people take 2 to 3 days. You need a Navajo Nation backcountry permit, solid navigation skills, and a lot of water. Contact Navajo Nation Parks and Recreation well ahead.

Wait for the tour. Honestly the best option for most visitors. When the cruise runs, it is a full day on the lake with the walk built in and nothing to figure out.

If you go

  • The monument closes at sunset. Boaters need to be gone by dark.

  • No drones, no pets, no swimming at the dock.

  • Bring more water than you think. The walk is exposed and hot most of the year.

  • Stay on the trail and give the bridge its space.

While you wait

There is plenty of Lake Powell you can reach easily. Wahweap Overlook is ten minutes from town and free. Antelope Canyon by kayak starts at Antelope Point. Our paddling guide covers where to launch.
