Our Story

Inspired By Exploration
The Wesley Hotel is more than a place to stay—it is a tribute to grit, exploration, and respect for the land that surrounds us.
Our name is inspired by John Wesley Powell, a pioneering geologist, scientist, and Civil War veteran whose legacy is deeply woven into the history of the American Southwest. Despite losing his right arm in the Civil War, Powell went on to accomplish what many believed was impossible: he led one of the first expeditions to explore and map the Colorado River, charting the Grand Canyon and much of the surrounding Southwest. At a time when expansion often meant domination, Powell advocated for understanding, stewardship, and respect for the region’s natural landscapes.
In his honor, Lake Powell—one of the largest man-made lakes in the world, located here in Page, Arizona—was named after him. Choosing the name The Wesley is our way of paying homage to Powell’s resilience, curiosity, and determination, values that continue to inspire us today.
The Wesley Hotel itself holds a special place in Page’s history. As the oldest hotel in town, the property has seen decades of change. Over time, it became worn, but never forgotten. Guided by the same perseverance that defined John Wesley Powell’s journey, we set out to restore and reimagine this historic space. Our mission is simple: to breathe new life into a beloved landmark while creating a thoughtfully modern and welcoming experience for today’s travelers.
At The Wesley Hotel, history and renewal meet. We invite our guests to stay somewhere that honors the past, embraces the present, and encourages exploration—just as John Wesley Powell once did.
