The Best Time to Visit Page, Arizona (and Antelope Canyon)
By The Wesley Team · 3 min read
Most people come to Page in July. We are glad they do. But if your dates are flexible, July is not the month we would tell a friend to pick. Here is the honest breakdown, season by season, from people who live here.
Spring and fall are the sweet spot
April into May, and again September into early November. These are the best months to visit Page, full stop.
The days are warm, the nights are cool, and the trails are walkable even at midday. Tours are not sold out three weeks deep. And rooms cost less than they do at the peak of summer. If you want the easiest, most comfortable version of this trip, come in spring or fall.
Summer is hot and busy, and that is the trade
June through August is the high season, and it earns the name. Page regularly clears 100 degrees, and the popular spots are crowded.
Summer does have one thing nothing else does: the light beams in Upper Antelope Canyon. Those shafts of light need a high midday sun, so they show up in the warmer months, roughly spring through early fall, and they are strongest around midday. If the beams are the reason you are coming, then come in summer, book a midday Upper Antelope tour, and plan everything else around early mornings before the heat sets in.
If the beams are not a must-have, you are not missing much by skipping summer.
Winter is the secret one
December through February is cold, quiet, and nearly empty, and it is our favorite secret.
The tours still run. You can stand at Horseshoe Bend with almost nobody else there, which in July is unthinkable. Nights get near freezing and you will want a real coat, but the payoff is the most peaceful this place ever gets. If you like your national parks without the crowds, this is your window.
Month by month, at a glance
March: shoulder season, warming up, good value, can be windy
April to May: excellent, warm days and cool nights, our top pick
June to August: hot and busy, but the season for Antelope light beams
September to early November: excellent again, smaller crowds, great light
December to February: cold and quiet, tours still run, lowest prices
One local tip
Whenever you land on dates, ask us what is happening that week before you lock everything in. We live here. If you have picked a bad weekend, a big event, a closure, a heat spike, we will tell you, and we will help you shift a day so the trip is better.
